Well as a simple rule on the pilot air screw, With the proper size pilot/slo jet, the screw should be able to tune to a proper idle between 1-3 turns out from seated, with a starting point at 2 turns out. If you have to go outside that range, then your pilot jet is the wrong size, if your less than one turn out, then the jet is too small, and vice versa, if your more than 3 turns out your too rich on the jet and need to go smaller.
But don't focus too much on just the pilot system....you could very well be too rich throughout the midrange as well.

Close but backwards. Less than 1 turn out you need a smaller pilot jet, more than 3 turns out needs a bigger pilot jet.
Thanks for the correction cHarley, I was thinking of my mikuni carb which the mixture screw is a air bleed screw, but the keihin is a fuel/air mix right off the screw. But principle is the same, just reverse what I said for the keihin.
Hmmm okay ill give that a try. I try playing with the mixture screw some and lowering the needle one notch to see if that helps the carbon and mid to high throttle which is where the bulk comes from. Does this sound good?
well i do hae some good news. I spent some time on the phone with dyno-jet and i found out my problem was the thunder jet. I removed it and put the origiona excelerator pump tube back in and the bike started without the choke and there is considerably less carbon. He said that if i had to adjust for mixture that he woudnt go below 3 turns.
