Default New Bars

Hey guys,
Just got my new bars today, and was going to attempt the switch tonight.
Looked for a good half hour for a good step by step thread, but only found ones with advice. Usually regarding lengthening the cables, but with these Biltwell Keystones i shouldnt have to. Anyone know a good video or thread showing step by step? I just started taking the left hand controls off and lots of little washers ect. Just want to find something dummy proof! I have an 08 Nightster with stock bars at the moment. Thanks!

For this the service manual from your local Dealer is the only way to go. The detailed pictures in there are very handy. It goes step by step on how to do things like removing and installing the handlebars.

Easy breezy man. Take off the levers and controls, take off top bar mount, put on new bars, put on top mount, put on levers and controls, have a smoke or a brew, sit back and look at a job well done. Once you tear into it, it's not hard to figure out! If you run into any problems, get back on here and ask a question, or feel free to PM me.

Good luck!

p.s. I love those Keystones!!

The Service Manual explains maintenance/repair procedures for the various systems on your bike. About $60 at a dealer. A wise investment.
Never thought about it, but I don't think I've ever come across a thread here, or anywhere else, that had step by step instructions for a bar swap.
Next, you'll need to remove the brake lever clamp and switch housing to get to the throttle and idle cables (so you can remove the right hand grip). The cardboard is to help prevent breaking the often broken brake-light switch. You can use looped zip ties or string and/or rags to get things held out of the way as you remove them. Don't let your master cylinder hang by the brake hose. Support it by some other means.

No need to dis-assemble the brake hose or lever. Simply remove the two Torx#27 screws that are in the clamp half of the brake lever assembly. Sitting on the bike, those two screws point at your face. Here's where the switch breaks. When you get the clamp half off the handle bar and you're ready to remove the lever assembly, remove the assembly in a rotating fashion so that the lever goes towards the handlebar and the master cylinder goes towards the front of the bike - all the while moving the whole deal kinda towards the headlight. Real hard to explain. Say a prayer for your brake light switch.

ok so far so good! only thing is i bought new grips thinking it would make it easier...yeah right! i had to remove the little brass things from the throttle cable, but got everything off ok. Bummer is new grips didnt come with the plastic piece for the throttle so i have to figure how to get the grips off and put new grip on that plastic piece that slides on. Ill try to finish tomorrow, im thinking putting it back together is gonna be harder!
THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP!
