No, I didn't get kicked out of my favorite watering hole.Handle bars. Gonna change my bars out. 06 Bob, going to save height bars, just black. Any tricks, ie; installing controls onto bars then bars onto bike? Or mount bars then controls? Is the left hand grip glued on, or held on by the switch housing like right side.
Seems simple enough, but, I have this fantastic data base of knowledge, so I might as well tap into it. Thanks in advance.
won't be much of a problem for you at all considering i'm assuming you won't be running internals?....yes, left grip is glued on.... will most likely have to damage it to remove it... get new grips...that said, the only real tricky thing is the accel/decel cables.... just give them some slack before you remove them from the right grip...and don't lose the brass ferrels on the ends ....also, you'll probably need new retainers that hold your wiring against the handlebars.... although if you're careful removing them, you can reuse them
...oh, and if you aren't running internals, you should be able to just remove everything and drape it all over your tank (cover it first, obviously)....install your bars, then reinstall everything

Stick a screw driver in between the bar and the grip, pry it out a little, shoot some WD40 in there work it back and forth a bit. It'll pop right off after that, if it doesn't repeat.
just loosen the screws on the controls and slid em off . if you opt to remove everything squeese your brake lever and put a piece of cardboard for a spacer so you dont damage your brake light switch. put a towel on the floor in case you drop the brass furrels. makes them easier to find. good luck its not a very tough project take your time and you should have no problem
Quick tip from someone who made a big mistake. When working with the controls PROTECT THE GAS TANK. I was adjusting my brake clamp and dropped the bracket on the tank causing two nice sized paint chips on the tank of my new 07 WD. Had about 1500 miles when I did it. Hope this advice saves your paint.
yes, indeed....forgot to mention the cardboard in the brake lever!.... don't forget to do that..... and yes, like Special Ed insinuates- you're gonna wrestle with that left grip....which is simply why i stated to spend the 60 bucks and get a nice new pair with chrome ends ...but if you do intend on keeping both grips, and are able to remove the left one, you don't need to remove the accel and decel cables from the right grip... you can keep all those components together and slide them off the handlebar
Right side Brake Lever = Cardboard ..... Clutch is Ok and a long thin screw driver and WD40 and the grip will slide right off like Ed said no need for grips unless you want them

Gotcha Trotter. Brake lever. A little typing dyslexia. I was thinking right hand... That's to keep the brake switch from malfunctioning?
