My girlfriend is looking at a 94 883. It has 8500 miles, Needs a good cleaning, Oil leak around the head to cyl. Bars are bent, Some scratches on the left mirror, turn sig and headlight cover. Needs front and rear tires. Runs really good. What do you think it's worth? The guys is asking $3700 but said he'll take $3300.
I only have 1 picture. Sorry for the big picture. Also the pic makes it look a little cleaner than it is.
How bad are the scratches and what caused them? They come from a drop or just normal wear and tear. Bent bars will need replacing so factor in that extra cost plus labor (even if you do the work). Some more bucks for the tires - rubber ain't cheap. Oil leak at the heads - another fix to be done that will add to the total cost. Is it the only leak or maybe possible there's some other that are getting ready to start. Only 8500 mi on a 94? Gaskets dried out and cracked from lack of use?
Sounds like you spotted the obvious issues on it but there could be more hiding just a bit deeper. I don't think I'd give more than 2K (maybe less) with the work it needs. But maybe the market in your area leans towards higher amounts.
I agree... keep looking... the after effects of what u might be getting into could total the cost of a 04 or newer one. Ive seen lots of 04 883's sell for about 4500 to 5000 and some in mint shape with just a few thousand miles. The older bikes...ya never know what ur getting into. But all in all i would give more then 2500 for it and plan on going over the bike with a fine tooth comb and an open wallet.. to get it right and SAFE anyways.
