I just purchased a used HD backrest with non-detatchable chrome side brackets for my 06 1200C that I bought last week.
Now what the heck do I do? How dothe side brackets attatch to the bike (and what do they attatch to)?
Lookin for help.
Thanks.

Didn't they come with a set of directions? HD's directions are usually pretty thorough. Anyhow, I put some on my old bike, and if memory serves it's two bolts per side. Hold it up next to the fender support and you should be able to tell pretty quickly where it'd go.

I bought the backrest on ebay w/o directions.
Do you have to drill holes in the back fendder?

I sure wouldn't think so. I hope they're for your year of bike. Why don't you post a link to the auction you won?

They go in between the fender and the bracket. Bolt them right through the fender in the existing holes, might be easier if you take off the reflectors on each side. That's what I did.

So- The "rigid mount sideplates" will install (on each side) between the back fender and the bracket with the reflectors on it. Right?
Also, at the risk of further embarrassing myself- What tool do I need? The phillips screwdriver doesn't seem to work on the reflector bracket. Thanks for your patience with helping a harley neophyte.

You need a torx. I think it is a 22 or 23. It's the biggest one in the set.

Okay-so I bought the torx set. Took two bolts off and the chrome relector plate still won't come off.
It is firm around the blinker light. How do I get the f**king plate off so I can inset the side bracket?
Any and all help appreciated!

You may have to take the orig. fender reflectors off to install the brackets which in your case I would think go between the fender and fender brace and you would use the same fender/fender brace holes to install the longer screws thru to accomodate the new brackets.

I know with my '03 the brackets install over the fender brace and there are longer screws provided to fasten the bracket and brace to the fender and I had to remove the original factory reflectors to do this.
