Default Changing engine covers

I' m really wanting to change the primary and timing covers to continue blacking out my Nightster. Is there anything I need to know before removing the covers? I'm assuming I want the bike as level as possible on the stand. Will I lose any fluid? Do I need to change gaskets? Thanks!!

YES & YES
And if you don't have one, you WILL need the Service Manual.

The Mac Daddy procedure is to take the rocker covers off and relieve pressure on the cams. Hardly anybody does.
