quick ? 883 or 1200
I was wondering the exact same thing...! I recently purchased a 1989 Harley Sportster XLHugger 883. This is a 4 gear not a 5 gear with a belt drive not chain. This is my first Sportster I usually ride Soft tails.! But with my back and shoulder getting worse I decided to get a lighter bike (at least for now lol) so I have no way of knowing the torque between a 1200 or an 883. But Ive been told by a few brothers that they believe mine has been bored to be a 1200 due to the fact that it gets me down the road pretty good given Im 61 and 260lbs...!!! Lol haha they told me if it was a stock 883 that it would have troubles a little bit. I do however find myself always looking for 5th gear when riding...

The distance from the spark plug hole to the far side of the cylinder at BDC will be significantly greater for a 1200 and can be measured.
