Default Dunno what mod to do first!

When I got the bike I had the dealer order the alarm system w/remote pager along with the engine guards. But now I'm thinking I'd rather have a new seat/forward controls instead of an alarm system since they seem more practical and money is an issue. I didn't pay for anything as I told them I would when I had them installed. What would you guys do? I eventually want to change the pipes so I would have to get the forward controls sooner or later anyway. Also how long do they take to put on and is it something that can easily be done at home by someone who isn't mechanically inclined? [8D]

I've been facing a similar issue. Money for upgrades is limited, so I've been working out what to do and when. I've just ordered a pair of Vance and Hines slip-on straightshots off eBay, so if money is an issue you can look into the slip-ons. If you go to http://www.vanceandhines.com you can also bring up the various exhaust products and they have on-line installation manuals, so you can get some idea of what they will take to install. I'm also going to get the carb rejet and high flow air filter when I bring it in for the 1000 mile checkup (which will be fairly soon). So, the basic performance upgrade is my first major upgrade.

I think, after that, I'm going practical and getting a sissy bar and possibly luggage rack so that I can load things up behind me, with saddlebags not far behind (got a road trip coming up in a few months). Past all this I have a few others things on the list. Mustang 2 piece vintage seat, windshield, new hand grips, etc. Most of those are more in the "convenience" category.

Marcus,

I would definately get the new seat and forward controls and you shouldn't have a problem putting the new stuff on. I upgraded to the sundowner seat and its much more comfortable. Let us know what you decide man.

Well comfort is I think the most important... It makes waiting for the other upgrades a little more tolerable...

First thing I did was change the seat... it only took me about a week to figure out the stock seat had to go....

If I had to do it all over again, the DWG "mini apes" bars would have been second... (The bike came with forward controls)

I've noticed you have been doing a little research here and there and of course that is the best way to go about doing things.... I have a couple of seats and a couple sets of pipes just setting in my storage shed because of not doing more research... lol

If it were me... I'd go comfort first and then the bling....

Ist one I did, and I think most do: Exhaust. The factory exhaust is so quiet. I was disappointed when I first fired mine up. I ordered a pair of SE IIs the next paycheck. Now I have the harley sound I expected.

They're still on there today.

Yeah... you're right... I forgot that I did that before I picked up the bike from the dealer.... and of course for the same reasons you mentioned...

Then it only took me a few days to realize I had to change the seat... lol
