I have not heard of the newer sportys having a a weak bottom end. My bike is an 07 and the rocker box gaskets went bad by 14K and the spring plate in the clutch broke by 14K as well, but the egines is solid and I run the crap out of my bike. I went with the SE clutch since it's cheaper then the OEM unit and does not have the junk spring plate and can hold alot more power if need be. That mag is full of crap if you ask me.
I love the Magazine cause I think all American Iron is Great!!!! Just like Hot Rod Magazine but yes I don't believe everything I read! That article is going to catch alot of flak I'm sure!
Sure, the clutch can be weak for performance use. How many drag race clutch drops will it take before failure? Further, stonger clutch springs have always been a performance upgrade to reduce slippage.
Hi speed handling. Sure what is high speed....120mph and what conditions smooth straight away or curvy mountain road? Fork brace, swing arm flex, suspension adjustability, steering dampener. I think the frame itself is pretty robust.
As for the other connecting rods, flywheel etc...it is said in this forum. This weaknesses are not reported.
For one thing, all things being equal shorter rods are inherently stronger because they resist whipping or flexing in the middle better than longer ones at high rpm. Harley upgraded the crankpin from 1.125" to 1.25" recently so I think that guy wrote something he made up in his magazine just to fill up space and get paid.

I agree with this too! I ride hard with a bunch of guys and my nightster always made it home!!!! I love that bike and I'm sure it will last with all the upgrades currently going into it! NRHS kits routinely make 100hp plus and never say anything about changing bottom end parts except boring the cases in certain situations. Where this guy got his info is beyond me!!!
