Default Weak Bottom ends on 07-up?

Under the Sportsters Corner in the June of 2010 American Iron a reader was asking about how to hot rod his 07 nightster. The reply to his questions was that before he hops it up he should take a look at the Fywheels assembly, short mediocre connecting rods(because hey are weak),an inadequate clutch for performance use,no transmission trapdoor and reported high speed handling issues. SoI'm looking for any answers to if this is true or not. I haven't had any huge issues at high speeds other than the fact that I don't have a winshield. I like the reader am in the middle of hopping my 08' Nightster up with ported heads SE575 cams roller rockers and roller lifters etc. Anybody have anything to add?

Well I can tell you that there hasn't been anyone in here describing the problem you've mentioned.

With what you are doing, I do not see any problems with what they described anyway. As for the high speed issues, I have had mine up to 110 and held it there with no problems. My advice is to go to the dealer and ask the best mechanic you can find, he will be happy to tell you what he thinks.

I ride the hell out of mine and if the bottm end was even slightly weak I'm sure I would have broken something by now, this thing is solid as a rock as far as I'm concerned.

HD knows there is a strong aftermarket in performance products. Building a weaker product would hurt their bottom line in the long run. Bad publicity, especially if true, would cost them a lot of potential customers.

ive had my bike 3 years with no issues and this is the first ive heard of this ..not much changed from 06 to 07 so why single them out..
my clutch is fine for stock..i pound it pretty good at times.. .the clutch is smooth and easy to pull, the efi puts out a few more hp than the carbed 06 stock and they handle the same as any rubbermounted sporty which is to say they suck untill you do some mods wheather for performance or cruising ..imo ofcoarse

The early 96 ci big twins, which started in 07, had a problem with the cranks tending to scissor under high hp/torque builds. This may be what you are talking about and I don't know if the problem has been fixed. I never heard of this with the Sportsters and I don't think there was any real engine differenes between the 06 and 07 Sportster models. Do a search. Heres a quote from this thread:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...ore-power.html

"The stock flywheels on the Twincams will sometimes scissor or shift out of alignment on high performance builds."

I was just going off of what I read in June 2010 American Iron. I never heard anything like this before either. I would think that my shop would have warned me before the buildup. I deal with a great Harley Davidson Dealer here in Vermont too! I never call it a stealership. They are literally like family and I know they would have said something if they knew the bottom ends were inherently bad! I'm gonna email the writer of the article and see if i can get an answer back.
