Chris: Looks like you have gotten some really good advise from the members......... I will chime in only on the helmet selection. The various helmet manufactures all have their individual idea of what the average head shape is. You MUST try on the helmets at a store someplace to find which manufacturer's head shape fits you best. The helmet should fit with NO slop after it is chin strap fastened. I have a big fat round head.......I found the HJC line was best for me. My wife has a very small oval shaped head. She found the KBC line fit her best. I also used Bell Helmets for years racing in the desert until I ran across the Thor MX Helmet. I say all this just as an illustration of the fact that you need to try on helmets until you are sure the line you want to buy actually fits you properly.

..................... Big Cholla.....................let us know how you progress.........

Ok back from the store.
HD Screaming Eagle Full face ... wanted something with some graphics for exposure ..This was the only one there that matched the comfort, breathability and had some type of graphic. Also got an oversized so that the amor will fit snuggly underneath, Harley Racing jacket with the white and yellow piping. I probably could have save a few bucks if I ordered on the web. But I needed to ensure that I got the jacket and helmet in hand because the Msf class starts on Thursday night ...

So at this point the only safety equipment still pending are boots (I have a set of steel toe I can use temporarily), gloves and some type of protection for the bottom half of my body --- probably the more vulnerable too ..huh ??

HEY TRAL .... GOT ONE FOR YOU ... JASPER .....Who's he better known as ...

Thanks again all

Chris

Bottom Half .....

Naked Leather Chap Pants
Double Nylon Stitched
1.8-2.0 MM Thickness
Genuine YKK Zippers
Nylon Lined
Super Thick & Soft

Over the
Bohn Bodyguard Adventure Pants - with Tailbone Pad.

I realize that the leather on top may be unbearable. But we dont have too much longer until things start to cool off a bit down here .. and I wont be riding to work for some length of time ... until I practice on these back country roads and in parking lots.
Figured I will throw a shirt and pair of pants along wiff the laptop in a throw over saddle bag, change into Clark Kent when I get to work, then back for the way home .. oh yeah ... forgot the case of pit juice

Again, I realize that this gear wont save me in alot of scenarios, but Im sure you'll agree, In some, maybe even very many the gear should minimize the effect.

Though you've bought your gear already, I will still second what Big Cholla said about what things to look out for in terms of fit on a helmet. I tried on a couple modulars since the concept of those helmets sounded cool, but they didn't feel "snug", and it seemed like I wanted "snug", for my first year or so at least.

As for Jasper, I remembered that it was a cat. I'll admit to cheating and using google to figure out which cat it was. It would have driven me crazy all night if I hadn't looked it up. Even then, though, it's been a LONG time since I've seen any Tom and Jerry cartoons.
