should a rookie have engine guards?
Each person must evalute the pro's and con's and make a decision based upon their own level of comfort.
I'm comfortable riding with no windshield, no engine guard, and my riding gear consists of boots, jeans, sleeveless T-Shirt, glasses, and sometimes gloves and a vest or leather jacket (depending on weather conditions).
Others wear reinforced riding suits, full helmets, guards, windshields, etc...
There is no right answer, or wrong answer, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even if that opinion differs from our own.

...which is why I bought the bike to begin with. Thanks for the opinons. I think I would rather put some money in some highway pegs.thanks again
I'm not too smart, or so the wife tells me, but where are you going to hang the highway pegs?
now thats a great question. Called the dealer and they said I can buy the kit for 179.99 and no guards are needed, or I can pay 479.0 and they will adjust and move all my pegs to the front, shiter, brake etc
I'm not a rookie rider, but just bought my 1st HD, and it's a Sporty. Engine guards don't look great on them, better suited for a dresser. If you can't hold up a Sportster, you shouldn't be riding a bike.

You might not be a rookie but if I'm still around after you've been riding 60+ years, let me know how many mishaps you've had.

Highway pegs can be mounted on it too.
You can dump your bike anywhere anytime, so why not have the peace of mind knowing that its there just in case?
