I put in the answer of whatever! Do what is right for you. When I was a kid I used to dirt bike and through out my teen years and adult years I would allways be riding peddle bikes or mountain bikes for 3 seasons. I chose not to get one for my sportster but everyone is different!

I'm not a rookie rider, but just bought my 1st HD, and it's a Sporty. Engine guards don't look great on them, better suited for a dresser. If you can't hold up a Sportster, you shouldn't be riding a bike.
Are you saying you're going to "hang it up" if you ever drop your bike?
