Depends on your own taste. I don't care for how they look. BUT, they do offer a wealth of protection for the bike.

I think they look out of place on a Fatboy. Of course that is just my opinion. Worth everything you paid for it.

I like em too, as an added bonus…they saved hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars in damage last year when I was rear –ended and my scoot went sliding down the asphalt on it’s side.

Plus, they make a nice place to rest your feet on long rides.

I just added one with the foot clutch tank shift set up on advice of a good friend who has been riding about as long as I have been alive. See the pic. I was completely opposed to it until now as I figured it might come in handy one day. I added some pegs so I can rest my heels on the boards and my toes on the pegs. I just have to remember to put up the pegs prior to lane splitting.

If I had a Fatboy, it would have a guard on it. Whitewalls too

I've used them on other bikes, they can serve as protection for you and your bike.
I hit a car in the left rear bumper that turned right out of the left-hand lane (2 lane one-way street, 30 mph speed limit) and cut right across me, no time to stop even at 30mph.
Almost made it around but my crash-bar hit her bumper and sent me down.
Crash-bar was bent, other scrapes and scratches, turn signals busted (you get the idea)
road rash from my hip almost up to my armpit but the bike was still rideable.
When I had time to think about what happened I realized that if the crash-bar hadn't hit the bumper it probably would have been my right knee that got smashed and all bent out of shape.
So even though I don't have one on my current ride I certainly can swear to their benefits.
