wouldn't the "clean" look also require footpegs in place of the boards?

Funny you should mention the possibility helping to save your extremities.

I went down a few weeks back in a slow speed accident. Engine guard got bent and bike got scraped. I got a few bumps and scrapes even though I had full leathers on. Ankle and knee are still a little hinky. But that could be because I was playing some "horse" with grandkids in their yard the Sunday after the accident.

I had been to chiropractor(unrelated to accident) and mentioned what had happened.

Well, I went to see him again this past Wednesday and he said about 2 days after I had come in, a friend of his went down in a slow speed - about 15 MPH - accident. He did not have an engine guard on his Honda Magna. Well, bike fell on his leg and screwed his leg and knee up. Leg got broken and the ankle was swollen. They had to put screws in his leg above & below the knee and put a rod to stabilize it until swelling went down. They were supposed to be operating on it the same day I was there.

So my engine guard probably saved me from some injury to me and for sure more damage to the bike. His not having the guard might have caused his injuries to be worse.

On a side note, the guard on my bike was bent. I took it off to try and straighten it out but had no luck(yet). Wife looked at the bike(2007 EGC) and told me it looked weird with no guard.

Red face Just used mine the other day

Just used mine the other day when I was out practicing quick stops in a parking lot. Came across some gravel at the end of a stop, at about 20-30 mph, front wheel came out from under me and on my *** I went. No damage to the bike. A small scratch on the crash bar and the turn single lens popped out. Got up.....looked to see if anyone saw my act....put the lens back in and away I went.

I'm not crazy about the look of the engine guard on my bike, but after adding 360 degree pegs and stretching out on the highway I'm not going to be taking it off any time soon! I think it added at least an hour of riding time each time I'm out.

I had a slow speed (unseen gravel on roadway) left turn crash on my Street Bob last November. I laid the bike down on my left ankle - broke the distal end of the fibula - metal plate, six screws and $14,000 dollars in surgical bills plus $3,000 in bike repairs later, a $200 engine guard would have saved the ankle and the spendy dent in the gas tank. I put an H-D black painted guard on the bike last week, don't much like the look of the guard and have had thoughts of an engine guard on a Dyna as pure heresy, but, lesson learned.

I had one on my fatboy. I put one on from Lindby. I definitely liked the look better without it, but preferred having it on there.

I have an engine guard on my FXST. It was a bit of an adjustment at first, but I now like the bar for looks and comfort.

Can't get past the ugly. Maybe someday I'll wish I had. Haven't had one since 1972. Maybe on a full dresser.
