I'm in the same boat. I get about 85-100 before my fuel light comes on. I have an 09 and the first 1000 miles it would come on around 75 miles but it seems to have leveled out. I have a heavy breather and 2-1 vance hines, with the power commander. Not sure if it has made much milage diffferance yet I just had it dinoed, and I can't seem to stay out of it.
My low fuel light used to come on around 100-105 miles but since I completed the stage 1, it comes on anywhere between 75-90 miles now. I tend to ride 80-85mph on the interstates, sometimes 90-100mph (don't judge! LOL). I don't usually hot rod it on the busy city streets. Too many factors to worry about (cars pulling out, cars turning, car in front of me stopping at a yellow light, car behind me, pedestrians, bicyclists, etc.). Put me on an empty stretch of I-840 or I-40 and "hello lead throttle hand!"
I usually stop around 100 miles to refuel. At that point, I need to stretch my legs out anyway. I'm sure all my friends are sick of my pilates moves on my bike. I have to stretch my legs some how...
Oh, and the furthest I ever went before refueling was about 125 miles, and that was prior to the stage 1.
I read this and I am amazed yet befuddled with the low mileage some of yall are getting on the nightster. I can't see it being that different than other sporties. I ride my sporty hard. Usually 75+ on the freeway, and I don't fool around in city traffic either. I have a windshield and usually a bag and often my fiance. I still don't get below 45mpg.
25-30 MPG? WTF? If my sporty got that low I'd be workin on it to figure out why and get it fixed. Even with a serious stage 2 upgrade I can't see it being that low.
Of course it does appear more of confusion of actual gas mileage and when the highly inaccurate low fuel light comes on.
Yeah I'm not too concerned with the light, because of the trip odometers, but I am amazed with the different mileages everyone is getting. Ah well, I guess I'll just have to see.
