Default Progressive shocks?

Does anyone have experience with progressive shocks? I was thinking about the 412 models, or is it worth the extra dough to get the 430's or 440's? Are the 412 an improvement over stock?

Yes, the 412's are a vast improvement over stock. I thought they were the best bang for the buck I could find. However, there are better shocks out there, but they are priced accordingly. There have been some issues with the 440's leaking and having to go back.

Other options to consider are: Hagon, Works, Ohlins, etc. The higher end shocks are priced accordingly with the Ohlins being at the top.

So.... Depends if you want the best regardless of price or are looking to maximize value.

The question should be:

What are my choices for shocks other than the real expensive Progressives.

A big fad are bagger air shocks. Got mine off a 2007 Ultra in mint condition. (they were take offs with 700 miles on them). Got them on EBAY for $50 shipping included. They ride like a dream.

If the 412's are improvement over stock I think I'll go that way. I was just wondering if the 440's were twice the shock... cause they are about twice the price.

I have run both the 440s and the 412s on my baggers. I like the 412s better. Well worth the $$$. I am running them now on my bike and love em.

DP, I went for the 13.5" 440 standards and in combination with Progressive Fork Springs and BelRay 7w fork oil I have a very fine riding bike. I also added LAChoppers one inch lowering blocks to keep the extra shock travel without too much heighth. Where I live everywhere is a long ride so whether I ride 36 miles to Fredericksburg or 370 miles to western Pa its a fun ride.

I had 412s on my RK and they were as good if not better than the air shocks I took off. My Sporty has Progressives also, they were on it when I bought it used.

Hey 1200c, I've got 13.5" ohlins on the back of mine and want to change my fork springs. do the progressives make it longer? And what are these lowering blocks? I'd like to take an inch off whether I change the fork springs or not, but I have no idea what these are, where they go, and is there a downside to them?

The Progressive Fork Springs come with a 3" piece of PCV to put above each spring, they can be cut down to ride lower but I used them at their full 3" length. I guess I was spoiled from riding a MAICO with 7" of travel on both ends. That ain't gonna happen on a Harley but even then, more is better. The lowering blocks move the bottom of your shocks back and down a little.
