Installed Dakota 5400 series speedo and speed sensor. All indicator lights work but not getting any signal from the speed sensor so MPH and mileage will not work. Wiring looks fairly straight forward but there must be something I am not seeing. Any suggestions or hints?!?!

Should I run the hot wire to the access. relay and ground right to the frame instead of running them to the 12 pin conn. from old stock speedo?
I installed a similar gauge on my 04 FLHT when I turned it into a Road King. Did you follow all of the calibration steps as per the manual. With the ignition turned off you have to hold for about 15 or more seconds then with the switch still pushed in, start the bike until you see "501" then press the switch and you will see "CAL" and "ADJ", press the switch when it says "CAL", drive 1 mile (previously measured out) and hit the switch button again, this should calibrate and start working for you. If you aren't getting the "501" then turn off the ignition and hold the switch in for longer and repeat the process, but once you get the "CAL" and "ADJ" you are almost complete. Sometimes you have to hold the switch button in for a long time.
Tried that but when I go to CAL it won't count up. I'm sure I 'm not getting a signal from speed sensoe but don't know why. Everything seems to be wired right. How did you ground yours?
Check the sensor for signal. Use a digital voltmeter. And with the sensor power and ground wires hooked up, meter on the signal output wire and roll the bike slowly and watch for the voltage to spike and drop back down, if it does your sensor is good. Depending on the sensor, it's range could be 0-1v, 0-5v, or 0-12v, but which ever range is works on, you should be able to detect it with a voltmeter. Which sensor are you using??? If you happen to be using one of the universal inductive sensors, then proper placement is very important for it to pick up signal off of bolt heads, ussually needs to be within 1-2mm to trigger properly. But for the heck of it, try going through the whole calibration process again and actually do the 1mile run and set it, and see if then the display comes up.
Found out I had some wrong info and did not need to change speed sensoe. Replaced with an OEM and now speedo works fine. I guess 1995 was the first year they used tranny sensor so it is diff then the rest. 1996 on, you would have to change the sensor. That's what they tell me anyway.
Thanks for your replies and help.
