48 suspension
I looked at the 48 in detail, My wife rides a nightster, which we have really modified (I can try to post some pic if you want). He weighs 105 lbs, and is 5'4". She races cars and used to race bikes. We tried the Burley shortening shocks and she doesn't weigh enough to compress them. so we put on a set of Ohlins race shocks and it transformed the bike. I mean it really did. The bike went from a 10K klunker to a 25K smooth as silk. I know they are expensive, but over the course of a couple of years riding, its worth it.
On the front, we just spend a bunch of time looking at the 48 as a conversion and as far as we can tell, the forks are the same as the nightster, just the TTT's, fender and Fender brace is different. The wheel is too, obviously. We have decided to go a different route on the front and are putting on some inverted 56mm forks, and will be selling her entire front end in the next few weeks.
so if you want to do a 48 front end, all you need to do is buy the TTT's (upper and lower, fender, Brace, wheel and maybe some spacers. The headset bearing is the same, the axle is the same and from what I can tell (I checked seal numbers) the forks are the same.
If you live in the NE and are planning on coming up for Laconia, we'd be happy to let you ride it.
