Take the $350 and go to Sears and buy some Craftsman tools. The ones still made in the USofA. Spend another $75 for service and parts manual. Then do it yourself. I did. I even check the critical fasteners. All the torque specs are in the manual.

DO IT YOURSELF! That was not yelling that was to draw attention. It is so dang easy to do it yourself. You save money. You get personal satisfaction. Most of all, you get that close intimate time with the one you love...your Harley!

Here is a link to the actual checklists dealerships use to service your bike. Print these and save them as records for warranty work to prove you did your services and knew what to do!

My 5000 service is also approaching. Since I have the tools it'll only cost me the time to go through the checklist and the $50 for the Mobile 1 V-twin synthetic oil and the filter. I adjusted my clutch at 3000 miles so I won't even need to do that.

I know there are quite a few people on this forum who are more than capable of doing their own services but I always laugh when I read about some clown saying he did his 1k (or 10k) in 30 minutes.
So, I just dropped my dyna off for a 1k service......granted its going to cost a little more, but our dealership actually drains EVERY fluid and runs through the entire bike. They replace plugs at 1k, and will change any bushings on the bike that need done. Granted mine is right around 255 bucks, but every other thing I asked them to do, they've said no problem, no extra charge. Better part is, the interior of the shop is entirely covered in with glass panels so you can watch what they do. Our service department actually runs about 3.5-5 hours for a 1k service, depending on what they find.
Long story short, those of you trying to go cheap on it and not get the 1k done, or service departments that don't do them properly, shame on every last one of you!!!!! Props to all service techs that do their job properly!! No problems paying that little extra for extraordinary service!!!
