I have been browsing 'harley ****' , the 2010 accessorie catalogue for detachable pillions. My preferred option would be the dyna version which attaches to a rear rack. I realise that the dyna rack would not fit my sporty (883 iron) but has anybody tried the pillion on a sporty rack?
It would tick all my boxes if it would!

Time is not a problem, finance more limited.
I would like a rack for solo riding, but need pillion capabilities so if I could achieve the dyna rack/seat option -ideal! Unfortunately I would need to order the parts before knowing they would/could fit- might be costly...

I don't think there is a rack/pillion combo available. However you can get a passenger pillion and a rack that attatches behind the pillion. HD has ones that attach to the sissy bar uprights or ones that attach to the fender and fender struts for "chopped fenders".
The detachable rack is rated at 10 pounds...not sure I'd be putting a person on there, ever. It is supported by bolts at the rear fender rails and I cannot imagine those supporting a person. Get the quick release rack if you want one, or/and a pillion pad if you want one of those.
