Yeah, you should be able to calculate the theoretical top-speed based on the gearing and how high your engine is setup to rev. Then all the power in the world won't make you go faster.

I have a fork brace and that seems essential at those speeds at 95+ without brace started to get a wobble in front end, with the brace nice and straight down the road.

Careful at the high speeds, have fun.
10-4 on the fork brace,,got one !
104 mph and smooth as silk,,Box stock an stayin that way,,why?
Cause In the Harley world mine Is a One Of A Kind !
Got the HD quarter fairing so wind Is no problemo.
Had alot of throttle left,,won't go there.

I remember back in 1986 i had a kawasaki 454 LTD with a 450cc engine and it would peg out at 130mph, its a damn shame a 1200cc sporty can only do 127 just pittiful...however I agree with the above posters, i am too old to do that speed andmore but sure makes me remember when all bikes hauled **** not just the sport bikes. there was no difference between sport bikes and cruisers as far as motors went...same difference.

0-60 is far more interesting and relevant to anyone who doesn't find themselves racing on a track.

What's your 883's 0-60 look like?

Not all speedometers are created equal...your LTD must have had an extremely optimistic one on it...

He he...

I had a Suzuki Intruder that had a speedo that would bounce wildly over 80mph... but it only went up to 120. According to that speedo, I went so fast I was back to going 10mph.

Cop pulled me over said I was "only" doing 115.

Ha! So funny! I read the ''troll post'' and now I see this thread. Just so happens I recently went out for a ride with my bro and we tested out our bikes. Bro has a 2009 Night Train and I a 2010 Nightster. He has Big Sucker, Samson full exhaust and tune. Mine only has V&H slip-ons. We went from a 2nd gear roll and I had about 3 bikes on him until I reached 200km/h (approx.125mph) where he was now in 6th and gaining on me quick. We stopped it there as we had to take the exit.
As for the top speed I am pretty sure I was close to it and if not I would have needed a lot more highway to get more out of it, lol!
Hope this doesn't start another crazy debate, lol!

Man, I love forums. Seems like you can get an answer to just about anything although some posts you have to take with a grain of salt and you have to roll your eyes at the frequent troll posts but other than that a great tool.

Seems like average 1200cc sporties will top out around 110 - 125 mph...not that I'll ever need to go that fast nor will I ever grow a pair to do so but it's nice to know what my ride is capable of.

I don't know....

My modified 1200C, high flowing intake and exhaust, Screamin' Eagle "E" cams (551 lift), tweaked heads, good tune, puts out quite a bit more horsepower than a stock 2004+ 1200 Sportster, but I still know of any number of Dyna's that have more performance. That's from a standing start, top end roll, or anywhere in between.

1200 Sportsters are quick bikes, and it is easy to gain additional horsepower, but that can be said about the Big Twins as well.

In fact my some of the ligher Dyna's (such as my 2003 WideGlide) only weighs 60 some pounds more than my 2005 1200C, but it didn't take much in order for it to put out 96+ horsepower to the rear wheel and well over 100 pounds of torque.
