Default 103 on a 48

Hi guys, I did what might think is undoable, but I traded my fatbob for a 2011 48.
While I wait to take delivery I am obviously lurking and making notes and getting ideas etc.

I would like to know if it would be possible to change out the 1200 cc engine on the 48 for a 103ci from a street glide.
I am aware that it would not just be a straight swap; ie the transmission and many other things would have to be changed, but do you think it's possible?

Thanks

Lou

No, there isn't room. There are big bore kits, and stroker kits, and other methods to get more power from a Sportster, but as light as they are, you really don't need as much as you might think. In fact, I suspect that a 48 with just an S/E A/C, SERT, and decent race exhaust will stomp all over your FatBob 103", at least up to 120 mph or so. With the five speed, Sportsters don't have the top-end speed of the Big Twins, but they sure get there quicker!

I, too, am going from a Big Twin to a Sportster. My Nightster will be delivered Friday, and good-bye to the Stupor Glide.

Big Twins and Sportster engines are completely different. The Sporty is a unit construction - engine/tranny in one set of cases, and the Twinkie engine and tranny are separate.

That said, there are things you can do to the Sporty. But the later models (rubber mounted) apparently are weaker in certain areas than some earlier Evo Sporties. Check with Zippers or S&S. I've not seen any kits for 2004 & later (rubber mounted) Sporties.

bt can't best a sportster above 100. never ever saw one that could do it.

horsepower = torque x RPM. if you're making torque, you only need to spin faster. sportster = win.

dont stroke a sportster!

Yeah I traded. I also have a Serk 4 so as far as touring I'm set.

The 48 will be to go to the office.
