1200 sporty front head gasket is blown I guess what my question is
what is the torque for the head and can they be retorqued or is it needed after it isfirst started.
thanks for the help my twin cam I have a manuel for but we don't have one for the sporty yet..
if it makes any difference it's a 1996 1200 carb.
You need to look at a manual on this on, there is a very specific way to torque them and a specific sequence to follow that would be quite confusing to explain with out pictures.
ok but I don't really see how 4 head bolts can be that confusing
yes I know the rocker box should be torqued also
Thank You for allowing me to search the internet for you.
Buy a focking manual.
8) Torque your heads properly. NRHS normally provides Cometic MLS head gaskets. Torque your heads with oiled head bolts and in the correct sequence per the service manual. However, torque them in the following steps: 9 ft-lbs, 14 ft-lbs, 22 ft-lbs, 35 ft-lbs, 42 ft-lbs. Then repeat the 42 ft-lbs sequence. Use a only high quality clicker style torque wrench of known accuracy. Note that Cometic MLS gaskets do not use separate viton o-rings around the dowels the way many gaskets do. If you use viton o-rings with Cometic MLS gaskets, you virtually guarantee yourself a leak.
thanks for the info will get a man but wanted to just put the head on to close up the hole didn't think it was such an involved question ..
I was a mech for 20 years and a machinist for 20 years and if somebody ask me a simple question they usually got a answer sorry if I broke some kind of rule here but then I have only been riding and working on these thing for about 50 years so I must have missed the rule..
thanks for all your help and I will down load the man..
