Keep in mind that those shift speeds are more on the "Driving Ms. Daisy" side of driving and keeping the RPM near 2000, which is really low.

Also keep in mind that the 883 gear ratio differs from the 1200 and I believe the OP has a 07 Nightster so may differ a bit from your 883.

hello there i have an 07 sporty and the manual says shift points are at 15, 25,35 ,45 which are all the speed limits around where i live , so i usually shift like 20,30,40 50 so i am not lugging the engine and it seems to work very well . ride safe and enjoy the bike .

I find I'm 2nd guessing myself a lot right around 55-60 mph. Feels like I need a 6th gear. I always think I'm still in 4th. Not as bad if I get up around 65-70

I've tried to shift into my non-existent 6th gear a few times.

I didn't even know there was a rev limiter until I tried to beat my buddies Ninja from a light. He was still in first gear and my CD was skipping.

I do this a lot. I don't like the sound my bike makes above 60.

I started with the manual suggestions but now shift by sound - using the manual does cause lugging and that makes heat and hurts the motor.
