Do Hyperchargers Really Work?
I guess it might be possible to gain 7 HP from just adding a Hypercharger, but will the additional air intake you would need to have your air/fuel mixture optimized throughout the operating range.
I kind of like the NRHS Hurricane air intake/filter system, as it allows you to keep the 'slealth look' by using the stock cover.
The NRHS site has a dyno chart showing horsepower increases between using the stock, SE, and Hurricane intake.
The bike they used was a 2004 883 with the 1250 conversion kit. It used the stock 883 heads, pipes, carb, cams, etc.
Rear wheel horsepower figures with the stock system was 58. With the SE intake the RWHP jumped up to 62.5, and it was 65 using the Hurricane intake.
Another interesting figure from those test show that doing a 883 to 1200 (or 1250) conversion will increase your horsepower figures, but you won't get to the power level of the '04+ 1200 unless you also go with the better heads and cams.

OFG, you got one of these? I'm wondering if you do cause I want to know what you did about the blow-by. Did you go with the kit or not? They're a little pricey for only gaining 2.5hp over the SE.
Looks mean more to some folks than others, and what one dude thinks looks slick looks like a turd to another. If you like the looks, go for it. Don't expect an increase in power like they claim, though. And forget about seat-of-the-pants feelings. Look for an independent dyno comparison, if'n it means ya gotta have the power.
Some of us will look at your bike and say, "Wow!" Some of us will look at your bike and say, "Another sucker ...!" Doesn't matter to anyone but you, in the long run.
Didn't have a blow-by problem for the short time I used it, but we went ahead and ordered one of the Golan Mini-Catch Cans that they recommend using.
While waiting for the catch can to get here the carb guy did some modifications to my stock intake to add some airflow, and when he finished doing his magic the bike ran and felt as good, if not better than with the HyperCharger....
Might cost me a horsepower or two, but I like to keep things simple, and the HyperCharger was just a little bit 'too much' for me.
I was also reading the following on-line information about the HyperCharger, and it also made me reconsider;
"The company claims that installing this air cleaner kit will improve performance and horsepower and that is true... under the right conditions. The reason it improves performance is because it utilizes a K&N free-flowing style filter, the same as you will find in the Screaming Eagle air cleaner kit and many others, even S&S is using the K&N style filter now. What the company does not tell you is that it will produce much better results on the dyno than on the highway. On the dyno it works great, but the dyno won't reproduce that 80mph wind forced into this air cleaner and out the rear like you get on the highway.
Because of the way the air travels into the front and out the rear of the Hyper-Charger, instead of forcing air into the carburetor, it actually siphons air (and fuel) out. As a result, you get what has been described as a "dead spot" or lack of power at highway speeds, not to mention the fuel breaks down the oil in your air filter hampering it's usefulness and the fuel mixed with air filter oil tends to deposit itself all down the right side of your bike when you go on long rides and then when you stop it all drips down on the cam cover, your foot, that cigarette butt you just dropped, and so on..."
I guess my take on the sum of responses is that a high flow air filter is a simpler, less expensive and just as effective an addition.
Well, so be it

My analytical thought, based on the fact I am being bludgeoned with lately - the recent Sportsers are shipped too lean burning at the getgo, has me wondering if even higher air flow would just make this problem worse.
So, any of you better learned guys (hey most of my Sportster experience is with a magneto fired, break your leg Ironhead anyway) think new jets would be needed if I actually succeed in getting more air on my 91 EVO?
