I've just finished installing the Hammer Performance Air Cleaner kit with their Horseshoe Breather Kit. My bike had all the SE performance mods and had been re-jetted as it should have been. When I installed this unit the bike would stumble whenever I twisted the throttle quickly and would backfire when slowing down from highway speed. I went to a friend who is really good with this kind of thing and he re-jetting the carb once again. Wow! The engine has never been as responsive and quick revving as it is now. This thing breaths like crazy.
I have the SE Stage 1 air cleaner kit, not sure if the Hammer is worth the extra money. I'm also looking at some of the kits from DK, too...
I certainly understand your concern with money and the Hammer unit is not so cheap. If you can swing it I believe you'll be more than happy with the result.

I can afford to buy either kit, just uncertain if there's even supposed to be a performance gain.

I agree, it does out perfrom the chicken by a lot and I'm one of those who want to get all the hp from what I have. This was a gain I could feel so I'm satisfied..
