Default Pre mod?

Hi everyone,
just got the word that my 48 will be ready for pick up on thursday evening or friday morning, and as most of you probably understand, my "to do" list is already quite ex(t/p)ensive and growing exponentially.

I wanted to make a poll as to what you think about the following:

1. Mod before pick up
2. Start the modifying after the first service

I say ride stock for a bit and see how you feel after that. Example, say you put drag bars on immediatley only to realize that they aren't comfortable(not saying that they are/arent) then you gotta spend more money to find a bar that's more comfortable. My .02 cents

^^^^ Totally agree. Your ideas and neccessities will change as you ride. Sometimes you give up comfort for looks but you don't want to make it a bike you hate riding cause it is so uncomfortable but looks great. So I would ride and change things as you feel that it is what you want.

Not only should you ride for a time first to decide what you want to do but you should shop around. HD factory accessories IMHO are overpriced and somtimes not as good quality as the aftermarket parts/accessories.

I gotta agree with everyone else on riding it stock for now and figuring out what mods you want down the road.

At minimum at least ride the bike home in stock setup. For me, I had a 120 mile ride from the dealer and that gave me enough seat time to know that new shocks were a must and I wanted an exhaust I could hear. Then over time I changed some things here and there.

If you never ride your bike in stock form, you won't really have anything to compare it to. It's your bike though. If you really want to and have the money to do a bunch of mods now and possibly change it again 'cause you don't like it, go right a head.

booo...

at least get an exhaust...your gonna want that for sure. and its not like its gonna affect your comfort...just make sure you get the baffles cuz it'll be a little bit more on the quiet side until your ready to remove them if at all.

yeah... ride it first to determine riding comfort and what needs to be changed to address it... second... the mods depends on what direction you want to take with your bike... bobber?.. cafe racer?.. touring?.. after you decide... don't rush... look at the photos posted here and on Internet, allow your ideas to evolve... it is typical to look at a seat or handlebar and think "that fits what I have in mind" then your ideas evolve.. and the new handlebar you installed not longer fits.. I understand, we all want to modify and make our bikes our personal statement, but if you rush is going to cost you a lot more... try to make it more of a mental exercise in the beginning.. visualize what direction you want to take.. google a lot... ask questions on this forum to get ideas...
