I just got a 2010 1200C last week. This is my first pushrod motorcycle so I have a couple questions about engine noise. The first 4-5 times I rode the bike I had my full face helmet on, and the only thing I noticed is now much quiter the exhaust is than I thought it would be, and how much of the engine you can hear.
The last couple days I have been riding with a half helmet on and I hear alot of valve train noise. Once I am in 3rd gear I can barely hear the exhaust... all I can here is valve train noise from the top of the engine... is this normal? I am guessing so, I am probably just paranoid because I didnt hear the valve train noise when I was wearing my full face helmet.
I just flipped 20,000 miles, and now when I get up in RPM's it sounds like either a pushrod or something in the rocker box is loose, it happens when on the throttle, and when off until the rpm's back down a little, so it's going in to have someone more mechanically inclined than me check it out. It only happens in gears, and only at about my shift points; couldn't get it to make the noise when in neutral revving in the garage.
Yours is probably totally normal, hoping mine is too.
