Thanks! Couple different theories about he 5. 5 speed, 5th version of the engine etc. Lucky for me I have the material, tools and the minimal skills to make my own. Oldretired guy with time on my hands.
Kinda interesting that HD continues to keep the points cover on bikes that haven't had points in some time. They allways use a cheap and ugly points cover and then sell everyone an overpriced replacement off the wall. Probably a brilliant marketing strategy if you are the company. I know we all just hemmorage money on our bikes but $59 for a points cover is ridiculous.
Really great looking a piece of art, didn't make my own but did sit down one afternoon and rubbed down and polished mine. Wouldn't mind getting a blank off you and setting my own medallion.

I found an old shelf we had put aside, which turned out to be made out of thin aluminum, about the same thickness as the stock cover.
I then used a pair of special scissors to cut the shelf into the cover...
The piece was painted glossy white, and a quick test with some spay paint failed to adhere, so I sanded it down, and I quite liked what it looked like underneath, so I just attached a medalion to it, and here is the result...
