Every person on here will probably have a different answer. Service manual says every 2,500 miles but I do mine about every 2,000 since I am a believer that fresh oil is the key to a longer lasting engine. I change engine oil and primary oil at the same time. Mobil 1 full synthetic 20W50 engine oil and Mobil 1 full synthetic 75W90 primary oil. Just bought 3 quarts of engine oil today and paid $8.99/quart and 1 quart of primary oil at $9.49!!! Expensive **** but I believe it is worth it, best oil out there.

Every Harley Sporty Service Manual and Owners Manual I've seen for the last 10 years says 5,000 miles for the motor oil change interval.

Up through 2005 the primary/tranny interval is also 5,000 miles. In 2006 the tranny gears were changed to helical cut and the change interval was extended to 10,000 miles.

The above factory specs are based on the use of fossil based oils, so those numbers should be conservative if you're running a good quality synthetic.

In any case, regardless of mileage, the oil should be changed annually, and if you store the bike over the winter, change it before storage.

I change my engine oil every 5,000 mi and the primary/tranns fluid every 10,000 mi per the owners manual. I use Syn 3 in the crank case and Formula + in the primary/trans. I'm not real hard on my bike, so I'm comfortable with these intervals.

5k for both oil and primary...since I'm getting dirty changing one it's not too hard to do the other!

I'll change it either after or before a trip, which amounts to about 3x a year.

Just put 8k on this oil, added .75qt at 3k and another .75 qt at 6k. Amsoil. Change filter at 4k

Just switched out to Redline and stopped going 20/50 in all holes.. I got the Tranny/Primary and 20/50. Shifts better already and is smoother and quieter.
