Default HD Solo Spring Saddle

I got my seat today and the mounting kit...pretty easy install. Now that I have felt the difference between the stock seat and the Spring seat I would just like to say the stock seat sucks !!!

The spring seat should have come on the bike from the factory. I will post pics after I get my bike back from St Paul HD I worked a set of 12" apes and nostalgia grips into the deal just waiting to get it back on thursday (Hopefully).

If you have 12" bars on your bike post some pics so I can relate. Thanks.

From the research I've done, most owners say the HD spring seat is NOT as confortable as the stock seat from a Iron/Nightster. I held one in my hands just two days ago and while the look and fit and finish was first rate, it did not seem like it would be an upgrade in comfort from stock. I just set it on top of a 883 low seat and sat on it so it may not have been a totally accurate representation, but I have PM'd a few users that have the seat and the feedback I received was that you take a sacrifice in comfort for the look. Everyone is different though so I am sure there are exceptions, but based on the research I did on the seat I had to take a pass on it. Damn it looks cool though.

I have the spring solo seat and 12" mini-apes. As for the seat - it feels WAY better than the stock saddle did on my Iron. It will feel different for everyone as we all have different sized asses. For me it is very comfortable. The only issue I had with it is the saddle has too much of a nose down attitude, and I found myself always sitting more on the nose than on the rear. I made a 1/2" spacer to go under the front mount and it slid my *** back on the seat just right.

Loved the apes immediately - they gave me much greater comfort, AND control over the bike. I'm now going for 16"s. Pic below of the solo and the 12"s..

These are 14's and I agree with schwingding that they are mucho comfortable. The spring seat, while not as comfortable as I would like is a drastic improvement over the cememt block that comes stock.

schwingding - your bike is badass!!!

I love my Spring seat so much better and It looks 100 times better than stock! I didn't bother buying the Harley seat and pan though $500 is way to much for a seat and pan. I built my pan out of 10 guage steel and got a new seat from ebay for $35 and two sets of springs for $15. Better look and only $50 spent. Harley should have put the spring seats on Stock that's for sure!

14"s? Why do they look like a foot taller than mine? What a difference two inches makes! (thats what she said).

Thanks for the compliment - yours is what I'm after - I'm def getting the 16"s.

Quick question for you dudes with the HD spring seats - you reckon you can change those standard springs to aftermarket coils springs?

I actually thought about this but I think it's gonna require drilling through the bottom of the mounting and then countersinking for the bolts so it will sit flush on the top frame rails. I may end up doing this - but still thinking about it. The other alternative would be simplybuy or make another mounting bracket. This might actually be the easiest option.

schwing, if you got the harley mini apes then they aren't 12". The rise is only 8.75".

I just measured them, the rise is definitely 12". I did get them from Harley, though. So I wonder what I really have!
