adjust shift rod linkage

Main long shift rod linkage,,Is adjustable at the ends right?
shouldn't have to.
Mount It all and see,
should be lock nuts( jam nuts ) at each end,,loosen and twist the ball end
In for shorter,,out for longer.
I would suspect one turn would really move the shifter alot.
