Well JBYUN, thanks to your advice, I think my bike came out pretty well. I used the exact same spray paint that you used, VHT Flameproof, I got it at Checkers, I tried a different brand before the VHT and it was too gray. Heres the before and after.
I guess the only thing that was a real pain in the *** is masking all of this with newspaper/tape and putting the pipes back on, it was pretty cold over here so I had to buy one of those 40 dollar heaters from home depot not sure if it helped much..
Did you paint your A/C cover as well because it's extra shiny.
I know what you mean about the cover up...that took forever and the paint job only took like 5 minutes. Actually for me paintjob took like 2 days because my daughter decided to step on the wait paint to sit on the bike so I had to sand it off, paint it again and repeat until it blended in. Pain in the *** but can't really tell anymore unless you look really closely.
Do you ever ride that thing when it rains? If so, I bet your ***/back gets wet in a hurry!

Richard, no doubt man. I'm going to try and set up another Shady Valley ride late March/early April but this time I'm going to take some serious time off and plan on riding the entire BRP before the group gets together. Let me know if you'd be interested in that.
Also, still planning on heading out the Smoke Out...let me know if you're still game and you're more than welcome to hang out at my place in NC anytime bro...if you don't mind two little girls that scream a lot.
Thanks for sharing the pics guys. Bikes look fantastic. Do ya'll know how long this paint will last? Is this a yearly thing to keep it looking good? I feel like I need to get painting this week-end now (but it's supposed to be 60 degrees out so I"m gonna ride). I'm with ya - never liked the grey color.

Couldn't tell ya since it's only been 3 months for me and I haven't washed the bike in those 3 months. So far, the paint has been good although there's some oil spots on it and I'm curious as to what it would look like after a wash but I only wash my bike once a year so probably won't find that out for a while.
I've read up on the subject before doing my mod and I've read from other people that paint holds up well and one guy mentioned he's going on 3 years and it's still good. Others mentioned that with time the black turns lighter with a grayish tint but that may be different paint. All speculation and based off of what I heard from somebody else who could have been totally full of it.
Why the moco is dumb enough to slap on a gray engine cover on a Nightster is still beyond me.

.
No I actually powder coated it.. I dont typically ride in the rain although I have gone over a few puddles and sure enough the back of my shirt gets pretty wet lol.
Say what did you do with your alen bolts? I was going to actually buy a whole set of chrome ones until I saw those chrome cap covers at the harley dealership, i'll post some pics in a bit.

I myself am trying to get away from as much chrome as possible. Some people actually taped up their allen bolt heads before painting but to me that just looked stupid so I just painted over everything.
Yeah I'm trying to get away from the chrome too but since parts of of the engine is chrome i figure I can at least have some chrome here and there, these are the caps I was telling you about.
Great looking HT paintjobs by all, but my question is - aren't you concerned about chips & flaking if you ever have to remove some of these parts of assembled engine(s)? Painting the parts in-tact does really cut time, but my worry is how to tear things apart when it's all painted over...??
