Cool Winter Storage,,,

I know I know,,If ya hav ta put your baby up It Sucks,,,
But I want people to do It right!
I'm No expert,,, So,, Forum members Please add to or call out the mistakes with my how to,,,,,,,,,,,,
Here goes:

Stabil Is Old Tech,,there are better products !
http://www.sentrytreatments.com/shtml/whysentry.shtml
Ethanol Is very hydroscopic,,Sentry Is Used In the harshest of enviroments,,Boats.
Fill with fresh fuel,,add sentry per directions,,
Battery Tender of course,,
Change the OIL AND FILTER right before you store it No matter how recent the last oil change was !!!
Oil contaminates cause etching,,get em out...
Change primary also,,,
If Possible get the bike on a stand,,,Concrete dries out tire rubber,,,
If no jack at least put plywood under the tires and keep them at pressure,,
Tires can loose a pound a week,,,
MOST IMPORTANT,,,DO NOT start the bike from time to time,,
Anything less than a complete warm up does no good, removes no moisture,,
Only engine temps above 212 degrees can do this and with no Air flow the heads will get too hot.
Leave the engine alone..

At the end of winter drain the fuel and use it in the yard equipment,,,
get fresh fuel,,,
Take the battery and get It Load tested,,
If you really love the bike,,ride It once for about an hour and change the Oil again,,,
the filter will be fine...

If the Garage Is not heated,,saddle bags and seat IN the house.
Only cover the bike with a sheet, nothing tight or plastic that can sweat.
Give It the best wax job ever and fix anything you find,,,
Check torque on as many bolts as possible,,,
Buy the HD service manual,,Its a good winter read,,
Oh and adjust your clutch per the book,,
clean the air filter,,,clean the plugs,,,

Hey Ya got all winter to make love to her :=)

Ok so I'm over careful about my bike,,,live with It :=)

You live in FL!!! WTF do you know about winterizing a bike?

HaHa. J/K, but I agree with some & disagree with other items. You forgot the steel wool in the tail pipe if leaving it out in an unheated shed. I'm not sure why your dumping out the treated fuel and the new unused oil in the spring. Plus, the only reason to take the battery out in the spring to have load tested is because it wasn't able to start the bike in the spring. Hell, my original battery lasted almost a full 10 years with never being on a tender during the winters. However, my bike is stored in the unfinished rec room of my basement on it's kickstand on a cement floor, but it also gets ridden on occasion during those nicer days of winter.

If the oil was changed before storage, the only thing that can be wrong with the oil come spring, might be a bit of moisture (condensation) in the oil system. The 1 hour ride should be sufficient to burn off any moisture, and the oil good as new.

I also heard of taking out the plugs and putting a few drops of motor oil on the cylinder. Have not tried it yet as I just purchased my first bike this past August.
