Yup i did the same thing, ended up with a stubby 12 pt box end wrench that fits perfectly in between everything in the way so I can loosen or tighten that nut 1/8th turn at a time. There is a diagram in the owner's manual for the set-up that is supposed to work but, no combination of socket/extension/wobble extension/u-joint/ratchet worked for me.

There are numerous tight spots on motorcycles but I couldn't agree more- someone does needs their *** kicked because of this ground wire placement...and torx bolt idea. I hear ya deepsea.
