Default Stretched Tank...

Anyone know of a place where I can find a stretched tank for a 92 Sporty for a pretty cheap price? Right now I am looking at about 350 and am willing to pay that (and probably will), but just figured I would ask first. I know ebay has some. Any thoughts on tanks off of ebay?

Thanks,

Duse

Default RE: Stretched Tank...

Five years ago, I put a Drag Specialties 'Quick-Bob' tank on my '93. The only problem I've had is recently the paint is starting to 'turn loose' from the metal around the right side gas cap. I found out the problem was the painter, a life long friend, painted the surface where the cap sealed. Over time, gas and fumes worked it's way up to the tank, making the paint seperate from the tank. We're going to repaint the tank over the next winter, making sure not to paint where the cap seals. Thank god the painter is a good friend, so the cost won't be too much!

Aftermarket 'Quick-Bob', 'FatBob', and/or 'Stretched' tanks can be a nightmare.

1. The makers will not warranty the tanks against leaks. They suggest you take the tank to a auto radiator shop to be pressure tested first. They'll replace the tank if it leaks, but will not pay for repainting it. (Why they don't do this at their factory is a no brainer to me.)
2. I took the tank I bought to a friend in the radiator business. He had been in business for over 20 years and had never heard of what the maker suggested. So, I was looking at a crapshoot. Paint the tank take a chance.

My tank didn't leak. Except for the paint problem that came up 5 years later, I've had no problems! I came out ok, mostly because the guy that painted it has been in the auto paint business all his life.
