Default Battery tender leads?

My wife is pregnant so her Iron is parked in the garage. I barely have time to ride mine much less ride hers too. So I want to put it on a battery tender. It doesn't look like it can be done w/o running some leads off the battery. So I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to do this and what type of connections to use?

thanks, JB

I got the Del-Tran (I think) battery tender Jr from my HD dealer. $39.99, it includes alligator clips, permanent leads, lead extension and the charger. The "permanent" leads are simply rings that the battery bolts go through for each terminal. It charges and maintains automatically and is impossible to hook up backwards. (except the leads @ the battery)

agree... when you attach the rings as permanent to the battery, the hook up hangs outta the bike on the side. we call this a "pig tail". my bikes have pig tails and one of them stays hooked up, along with one of my cages. the cage does not have a pig tail, so i have to clip on the tender.

i have a junior tender on the bike and a regular one on the car. they also make a more expensive one that can do several vehicles.

I just did this today. The negative side of the battery was hard to get to, so I used the negative connection at the crank case. Ten minutes and the pig tail is ready for use.

I ran the + to the starter stud and just attached the ground with a mill tip screw to the frame under the seat. The battery cables are a big enough pain in the *** without adding 2 more wires to the mix.

Wasn't really a problem for me as I attached the pigtail when I changed out the battery. I ran the pigtail up and out between the seat and fender brace.

If you're going to get one for the wife's bike I would reccomend that you buy the "two bank" model, and install a pig-tail on yours as well. You'd only be spending a few dollars more and when you're not riding plug yours in as well. It could very well make your batteries last a few years more.

F, if you happen to be near a NAPA store pick up some High Dialectric grease and coat whatever screws you attach the leads. I like others used the Plus on the battery and the chassis ground near the starter. Piece o cake.
