Can't beat Gerbing heated gloves. I bought about 6 pair of gloves trying to find some that were really warm. None were good below 40.

so they might look kinda gay... but has anyone here tried snowmobile/atv mitts?
if unfamiliar, they mount on the bars completely covering the bar end and controls. you slip your hands in to them ungloved or with only a thin pair of regular gloves on.

IceArmor X by Clam

They are windproof and waterproof ice fishing gloves that you can get at the outdoor stores like Cabela's, BassPro, and GanderMtn.

I ride year round here in Michigan and it can get pretty damn cold, probably similar to England. My coldest ride was about four hours, at speeds up to 60 m.p.h. in -20 weather. The bike took forever to start, it sits out on the sidewalk, and I had to put an electric heater under it and cover with a tarp before she fired up, started good the rest of the day. I us Aerostich's "Airvantage" electric vest and run heated grips inside "Hippohands". Those are the hideous bar end wraps, but they block the wind and even cover the forearms. I think they're still available, mine date back to the 70's. A cheaper alternative is the ATV mitts, I got some from Cabela's, on sale for $20.00. Don't block as much wind, you have to modify them for your mirror stems and they also have a pocket inside that accepts a handwarmer heat pack for the back of your hands.

I tried Hippo Hands on my bicycle and used those disposable hand warmers. I tried a $200 pair of non-heated winter gloves. Nothing comes close to heated gloves.

Heated gloves. Final answer.

I have also used silk gloves under the regular leather glove. Still cold, but it must have been an improvement.

Never did this one, yet I wonder if rubber/ latex gloves would aid to retaining heat (certaining dryness in the rain) or blocking the wind chill.

I ride to Vancouver,BC from Seattle every weekend (about 3 hour trip) and lately its been in the 30's and 40's. I ride at about 80mph and only stop once for gas.

I only ride with fleece liners and leather gloves. My hands do get cold, but not to the point where I can't move them. I've tried the rubber/latex glove thinig underneath my leather gloves and it didn't help at all. If you're going to go any kind of distance just suck it up and get heated gloves. I am going to buckle down and just get a pair to make my rides a bit more enjoyable.

Just a thought, if you check prices you'll find that the heated gloves cost as much or more that a heated jacket liner. If you purchase a jacket liner, warming the "core" temp sends warmer blood to the extremities, you may not need the heated gloves?

If you're riding below the 40's for any length of time you are still going to need heated gloves. Yes, keeping your core warm is important, but its not going to be enough to keep your fingers warm.

My core and legs always feel extremely comfortable, but after about 30 minutes riding in the 30's at 80mph your fingers get cold.
