Default 20% off

I'm confused on how places take off 20% off all HD parts. Any info?

They lower their Mark-U /Profit Margin and make it up in high volume of sales.

Make less per sale, but a whole lot of sales.

Some dealers reyly on walk in traffic from their marketing area and they want full list. Other dealers take the approach that they can take a much smaller markup and steal business from their competition.

Andrew Carnagie (One of the richest men in history) said he'd rather make 1% off of 100 people than 100% off his own efforts.

Sammi,

Profit margins on HD parts for the on-line and regular dealers are in the 55%-60% range. If they give you 20% off, they're still making 35%-40%, and because dealers who discount 20% do more business, they are really doing quite well.

The best on-line 20% dealer I've found and used is Surdykes (link below). Great prices and greater service. I highly recommend them.

The other dealer I'm aware of doing on-line business at a discount is Chicago Harley (link below), but I have no personal experience with them.

I am sure there are others...

Zanotti's in Butler Pa also is 20% off.

Wish local dealers in my area would jump on the bandwagon. They could give 30% off and still make a good buck if their volume would increase - and I think it would!!
