That's not a 48, or even a Sportster for that matter. But yes, that is what a 48 upper would look like with clip ons and the bar clamp left off.

Right budy, thank you for the correction.

And another point I thought of is the riding position...
When i bought the 48, one of the features I liked about the bike was the forward controls. Most of the bikes with clip-ons (like the cafe racers) have either mid-controls or back-controls witch makes sense to me when you see the riding position, being the rider leaning towards the handlebars. I don't know how comfortable it would be to ride this bike with clip-ons and forward controls...

Depends on what works best for you. You could always swap to mid controls which should help make it a little more comfortable. Mids would also help to make for a more aggressive riding position.

Oddly enough Ive got a set for sale if anyone needs mids *hint hint*

Do all the work yourself and it shouldn't be very costly....

According to specs, your fork tubes are still 39mm like the regular sporties and you have a wide glide front end. RSD and Licks sells clip-ons for around $200, or the ones I got from GP Racing are $110. Not many mods will be necessary. I would grind your top tree down where the risers are, smooth it out and re-powdercoat or spray can it. All the speedo clamps vary. If you use your money wisely, bought the GP bars and summit speedo clamp, you can do the whole project for about $130 - $150 + powdercoat.

thinking of this myself, seen it done were the 48 top tree was machined,
take a look at the top tree from the super low , pretty sure it would fit.
I have 29" drags at the mo and it's Soooooooooo comfy. sat on the 48 with clip on's
and not so sure anymore.

I've researched this to death and found a couple viable options for replacing the triple tree.

The 48 tree is 8 3/4" with 39mm tubes. You can deal with the riser issue in multiple ways, but for me working with the stock part is not an option I would utilize.

The current Xl1200c Riser is the appropriate solution. It only comes polished. Its roughly $271.00. You'll also need to relocate the speedo.

The SuperLow uses the same mid-glide and forks.

These folks make solid parts.
