Default "Clips" on a 48

What will it take to put some clip-on bars on my 48? It looks like I will need to change the upper triple tree because the risers are built in, but I'm not sure which bike I might be able to cross reference the part from. Can someone tell me whether the 48 has a mid-glide front end or a wide-glide? Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks

Wouldn't the glide uppers have space for a larger diameter fork? What about just taking your upper triple tree to a machine shop and having the risers machined down smooth? Then get it powdercoated.

Could definitley do the machine shop, but I thought buying an upper might be a little cheaper.

It may very well be, but I know the forks on my brother's Wide Glide are larger in diameter than the forks on my 48, so I doubt the Wide Glide upper would work. Not sure about the mid glide front ends fork diameter. Realistically if you have the ability to remove the upper yourself it shouldnt cost all that much...most machine shops around here run about $75/hour. Figure 2 hours at the most. Just keep in mind you'll have to relocate your speedo since the 48 speedo mount is integrated into the risers/upper triple.

Correct...but from what Im understanding is he's wanting to get rid of the risers that are built in for a cleaner look. Unless Im understanding wrong?

Exactly. It wouldn't look very good if I just left the stock upper without any handlebars attached. As far as the speedo, I was thinking either the RSD relocation kit or even the Joker machine side mount. The more I think about it, this is going to turn into an expensive little project.

I used my risers, ground them down, for the speedo mount. I know yours is way different. Mine's a 95'. Good luck! Should be awesome.

I've been thinking a lot about putting the clip-ons and I considered many options, including just leaving the top triple tree without the clamp... But it doesn't look right. I found this picture and I'm pretty sure it's exactly the same bike with the clip-ons and I don't like it.
