My two girls and I were out last week. They wanted to get a bite to eat so we pulled into a restaurant.
As we walked in, I noticed a car that had a 9/16 Craftsman Open/end and box wrench sticking out of the plastic on the front bumper. Looks like he picked it up on the highway.
..... man that would have hurt if one of us happened to catch it ... possible to see it coming your way, but impossible to predict its path.
Yeah, that is scary. Something to be said for that 2-second rule, I had a guy swerve at the last second in front of me doing 75+ on the freeway ... there was a big wad of carpet! It really could have done me in had I been right on his tail!
I don't know about the 2 second rule...if I don't have a lot of visibility in front of me I get real antsy. About a year ago a friend of mine was taking a night trip to the Big Easy on his Dyna........all of a sudden the guy in front swerved to the other lane but the Dyna couldn't miss the Semi tire tread. Many broken bones and a totaled Dyna later and he's back in the saddle again. He was able to land in the grass at 75mph...skidded and tumbled for a good fifty yards. I wish I had saved the picture of his helmet....took a beatin' bro.

I see a lot of those daily, out here in the Seattle area. Wouldn't want to hit one, that's for sure.[sm=noooo.gif]
I was in my cage going to a hockey game in Detroit. 75+ mph on I-94 in the right lane and being passed like I was standing still on the left. This guy on a BMW bike passed us and was so close to the bumper of the cage ahead of him that you could not have fit a yardstick between his front tire and their bumper... doing over 80! He had zero reaction time. I pointed this out to my wife that if the lead cage taps his brake the guy is toast. I don't know the outcome but 10 minutes later the highway was dead stopped w/emergency vehicles coming and I was redirected off ... one can only wonder what happened.
I always try to have at least 2 seconds of pavement between me and the car ahead, in or on any vehicle. I would rather get there late than not at all.
BTW ... the Wings lost that game [:@]
Olesalt: I am glad your friend is okay! Those busted up treads are nasty.
I was riding home from Rice Lake this past August. A Cadillac passed me. The left rear tire had a sideways shimmy. I slowed down a bit to get another cage between the Cadillac and myself. Within minutes I heard the tire blow. The Cadillac cut across three lanes of traffic on the 401 hwy to get to the shoulder. Glad I used the cage to shield me from the debris. I always use that 2 second rule and sometimes I go to 4 seconds if I feel the situation deems it.
