Anyone out there use torque cones on there EVO? Im doing away with the screaming eagle pipes I really dont like that dam cross pipe.. and running a set of drag pipes 1 3/4" off of a old shovelhead, am wondering if anyony is useing torque cones? If so, can you tell a difference in power and what about sound?......
I don't beleive torque cones work at all on the street. I tried them once but removed them after a few days. I didn't notice any difference power wise and actually thought it made the exhaust note a bit tinny sounding.
We all know exhaust science is a bit complicated so without going into reversions, pulses, and exhaust valve scavenging it's simple to see and understand torque cones are simply on the wrong end of the pipes. They may speed up exhaust gases somewhat as gases flow faster when the diameter gets smaller but it's probably negligible in effect.
They are cheap enough to give them a try but I doubt you'll find any difference.
You've got the right sized drag pipes at 1 3/4" (anything larger and you almost always have to throw in baffles for them to work right.) But you still can benefit from some restriction in the pipes. You might try putting in some shorty baffles like these:
I made these out of a longer set of baffles. And I also welded in a flat washer for some additional restriction. With these short unwrapped baffles you still get the sound volume and the washer added a deeper pleasing tone. Power wise it feels better but that might be my imagination, LOL! But I know in theory it should be working. Most parts houses sell these shorty baffles and they are cheaper than longer ones.
Nice, thank you for the info, I wasnt too sure about these cones, I was told to just run a bolt into the side of the pipe and it would work but, If I dont lose power/torque with the drag pipes alone, then I'll just run it as it is and wont worry about the cones.
You guys are calling it the wrong thing. The torque cones go in the exhaust port before you install the pipe and they do help. They stop the reversion wave that tries to re-enter the head when you are using straight pipes, this wave can make it all the way back up the pipe through the head and intake manifold. They even help on regular exhaust systems. I have a set of SuperTrapps on my bike and I use them, Head Quarters sends a set of them along with every head porting job they do and they highly recommend them also.
