I do 800 in a sportster (883 roadster) and a TC96 (FXDC).

not telling ya to do it, just saying it works for me. better than that, the bike does not 'accelerate' to 1500rpm on cold-starts (god, I hate that), it starts @ 1100rpm when very cold, on warm days starts @ 1000rpm and drops to 800 from there.

800 rpm on a 96" ? Sir, with alll the trouble HD has had on 96" motors with that cheap cast crankshaft introduced in '07, the one motor I'd NEVER lug down is that one. Please read threads re: " crankshaft run-out" in this forum ( Apologies to the XL guys, I know that's where this thread started...

The most engine wear Is at Startup, that first Initial Oil lift,
The 1400-1500 RPM startup shortends the duration.
Cold RPM time Is decreased by 20-40%

Think of it this way,,,
The goal Is to get the Oil up and everything coated.
So you want to "Lift Oil" and start the warm up process ASAP.

What Is faster 1500 rpms or 1100,,,,,,,,,,,,
