You are correct - your engine - it _looks_ clean. It would actually be much cleaner had you not sprayed it with wax. You might have just as well sprayed it with oil, it would look exactly the same, maybe even shinier. Go ahead, enjoy your Pledge, but now that you understand it is just lazy man's window dressing, well - I don't intentionally do things that make no sense. (I do however do plenty of them just the same)
Let's just clear this up right now, Pledge contains *no* wax.
Q: Does PledgeŽ polish or PledgeŽ Wipes create build-up over time?
A: No, neither PledgeŽ polish nor PledgeŽ Wipes furniture polish will build up over time because they do not contain wax.
So, you may not "intentionally do thing that make no sense", but at least know what you are talking about.
Technically - it might not fit the chemical definition of a wax, instead it might be more properly called a polish. However, the action is the same, and the same mechanisms are in place. I suppose you win, I hope this validates your poor choice of cleaner for your engine.

lol, whatever dude. I wasn't trying to "win" anything. I was simply trying clear up any misconceptions that Pledge is a wax or contains wax. I don't need to validate my choice of cleaners. I use what works for me.
My bike was filthy when I used it. I never use soap and water to clean my bike....water gets in all the crevices and drips and beads all over the place..I just strait up spray and wipe..
That's crazy man .... use a leaf blower to dry it of after washing.

Well said. Every thread has a "nay sayer"...i'm even guilty of it sometimes...just comes with the territory.
I'll keep using it till the day the waxy build up is too much to handle and I have to buy a new bike because of my "poor choice of cleaners"
So, let's see...Pledge is bad because it contains wax, which builds up. But the when told that Pledge contains no wax, then it's bad because it contains "polish". Sounds like someone just doesn't like Pledge and has to make rationalizations for it.

Hmm.. had you followed along, you may have noticed my initial response on this thread - it doesn't exactly sound like that of a "pledge hater" or naysayer, does it?................
"As the testimonials bear witness, it does a very good job of both cleaning (the solvent), and polishing (the wax). I can't imagine that it does a great job on a highly textured surface like an engine, and would not recommend it's use there. However, on polished surfaces, and even on matte finishes, it really does a very good job. Keep it away from anything you don't want slippery, just like you would oil. Beware of it overspraying on your brake rotors, and it might not be great on your mirrors.
The one thing that I read here that didn't really grab me as a great idea was to use it for cleaning a dirty bike, road dirt/grime can be highly abrasive, wiping it off with a rag drags/embeds that grit across the surface and contributes to surface degradation. Please be considerate to your polished surfaces, hose them off when possible."
