Default I seem to maybe have an oil press. issue (help)

It is chilly here this morning (34F), but I kinda doubt that fact has anything to do with this issue.

Pulled the bike out of the garage, turned it to "run" waited for the yellow oil idiot light to go out, fired her up. Few seconds later, the oil light comes on. ??? Shut it off, repeat, light comes on again after a few seconds. Think maybe the idle is a little too low, give it a little juice, light does not go out. Pull back into garage, scratch head.

No oil on the ground. Plenty in the tank. It even feels a little warm, like it actually has been circulating for just that little bit of time, as compared to the battery side cover..

Any ideas? Thx. (2010 Iron)

What weight oil do you use? Can you stick a small bright flashlight @the oil cap opening and see the oil circulate? Make sure you oil light wire(s) are secure.

Hey thanks. I checked, oil is definitely circulating - but though clean and fresh, it's about as thick as old pea soup. However, this time the light went out and stayed out, and it has warmed up a good bit since my initial post. Thanks for the suggestions! Oh, 20/50 synthetic.

Great choice with the synthetic. If your garage is real cold, in the future, you may consider heating your garage area where the bike is stored being careful of fire dangers of course. Glad the light went out...

No doubt. This was probably the coldest morning I've ever started my engine, and I'm sure you're right about the oil just being so thick. An hour after I posted the original thread here and went back to try your suggestion, the oil had benefited from having run the engine, the garage was warmer, and things ran as they should. Thx again.

The factory doesn't recommend 20W-50 under 40*F because of viscosity/cooling. It's sort of an arbitrary point and you can definitely go below with a good synthetic, but how far below is another question. Under 40*F they recommend using 10W-40.
