My wife has a 06 883L, converted to a 1200. Out riding this beutiful afternnon and stopped to eat. Started bike back up and NO speedometer funtion other than back light, No odomter reading and No speed MPH reading. Got home ran diag codes and it shows U-1097. I do know that means "Loss of speedometer serial data (Carb) and Loss of speedometer serial data TSM/TSSM. I was told to take out the speedometer sensor and clean it off of the metal fileings on it, done that and no filing on it, but cleaned it any ways. Still code U-1097. Just what does Loss of serial data mean other than the obvious that the speedometer is in-op??? Duh......
