Error Code P0503 Speed Sensor
Hey forum members, has anyone had experience with a speed sensor going bad? I've been riding my bike all week to and from work and it's been running like a champ. Low fuel light came on last night on my way home, so this morning I stopped and topped off at a gas station close to work, and the rode from there to the shop no problems. On the way home tonight I noticed I had no speedometer (btw, installed the analog tach - digital speedo combo back in January of this year), no gear indicator and the self cancelling turn signals quit self cancelling. Now we have a new building being constructed next door and everyone's vehicles in the parking lot was covered in a layer of red clay dust. When I got home I ran codes on my FP3 and got P0503 "Vehicle speed sensor failed high". Thought maybe the wheel sensors got covered in grit and some other crap so I blew them off with air compressor and gave them a light tap with a brass hammer to maybe help realign / reset them. Well that didn't work. Also, bike has ABS brakes and got no error codes nor did the ABS light come on indicating a sensor failure. Curious any thoughts on a possible fix other than letting the stealership make some money?
The part number that comes up matching that error code is: 41000614. Can't find that part in any Harley websites. That code says that the "ECM is getting inconsistent signal voltage from the vehicle speed sensor". Try entering "vehicle speed sensor" in parts finder.
