Lowbrow Velocity Stack
I was looking at this stack for my 02 883C. I'm a bit worried about what some people said about stacks letting dust in the engine. I wonder if I could stick a piece of UNI air filter foam in between two mesh screens to add protection.
Is it just a crazy idea?

You say that local shop(S) are telling you what you don't want to hear...do you trust them with anything else? Do you get any other maintenance or service at any of those shops? If they take the time to suggest something (that you ask about) and you end up doing the opposite, you probably won't get the best service. Just sayin.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
If any of you velocity stack aficionados (and the stacks do look cool, and if properly designed will increase air flow) doubt this I challenge you to get your oil analyzed by someone like Blackstone. I guarantee you'll make yourself sick when you see the results - way high iron, aluminum, and copper. You'll also see high silicon, evidence of the dirt you've sucked into your engine. And the nice people who do the analysis will tell you your air filtration is bad. If you tell them you don't run a filter, you'll be the butt of the jokes around the lab for the next couple weeks.
Except for a bike I knew I was going to rebuild, I wouldn't ever consider buying a used one that had been run with a stack, not even a filtered stack.
